A glossary for search and local marketing

GEO (generative engine optimization)

GEO means making your business information clear and useful enough for AI assistants to mention or quote. It matters when customers ask those assistants for help finding or comparing businesses.

In plain terms

An owner may care about this when a buyer asks an assistant for help choosing a service. The useful editorial question is whether the business has clear, supportable information that can answer the buyer’s question. AEO focuses on direct answers to questions; GEO focuses on whether AI assistants mention or cite the business. Much of the writing work overlaps.

How to check it

Choose one buyer question, identify the page that should answer it and read that page without the surrounding navigation. Does it name the business, describe the service and show who stands behind the explanation? Keep the original answer and source links when you run a visibility check.

Where Antidote helps

Antidote’s current live visibility check samples category questions through ChatGPT. No one can check every assistant or guarantee a citation. Google says its AI search features do not require special AI markup.
